Student leadership

All year six students have the opportunity to become school leaders in their final year of Primary School.  School Leaders at Gargett take on added responsibility, through participation in both school and community events, becoming a role model for the younger students in the school and participating in Student Council events. If there are no year six students, the year five students become junior leaders. They also have the opportunity to join other year six student activities within the cluster to build their leadership skills.

At our Student Leader Induction Ceremony, invited guests speak to the students about the importance of being effective leaders and present students with badges and special leadership shirts. The Leaders perform acceptance speeches which outline details about how they will demonstrate leadership in the School Community, and how they will represent Gargett State School in the wider community.

Leaders must wear their school uniform proudly, adhere to school rules, and help others. They must positively interact with all school staff, school community members and visitors to the school. These students are also expected to interact with students from other schools when at a Cluster event, promoting good sportsmanship and positive behaviour qualities.

As part of Gargett State School  Leadership Program, Year 5/6 students are encouraged to attend leadership workshops to develop strong leadership values, to provide focus and direction about making a difference and being the very best they can be, not only in school but life in general. Leadership activities take place throughout the year with the Pioneer Valley Cluster schools.

Throughout the year these students continue to work on developing their leadership skills, values to continue their growth and becoming future leaders.

As well, Gargett State School has a Project Club and this club is responsible for student fund-raising, which provides extra resources and equipment for the students and school.
